Volperhausen Castle

The Volperhausen Castle is a castle in the village Volperhausen in Oberbergisch district, North Rhine -Westphalia. It is located four kilometers from Morsbach away, but still belongs to the municipality.

History

Volperhausen castle was first mentioned in 1462, the tourism association Oberbergisches country speaks on his website from the beginning of the 16th century. The lowland castle had a rectangular floor plan with an attached on one of the long sides of the stair tower. This first plant was destroyed during the Thirty Years War. The reconstruction took place in 1682. During the 20th century repeatedly carried out refurbishment work.

Originally the castle was owned by the Count of Hatzfeld, in the further course she changed hands several times. She was formerly an outpost of the castle Crottorf.

Plant

Today, the castle building consists of a three-storey quarry stone with slim stair tower. The now existing ditch which was also used by the former mill next to the castle house, still indicates the type of a water castle. Today, on the site of the mill is a residential building. The castle is privately owned and can therefore only be viewed from the outside.
