Volvo L3314

The Volvo C202 is a capable off-road van of the Swedish automaker Volvo, which was built from 1977 to 1981.

Technology

Its predecessor was the produced in the 60s in Sweden exclusively for the Swedish military called L3314 (or as a radio car with 24 V power supply L3315 ), also Lapplander. Because of his cute puppy - looking, it soon became " Valp " ie called in Sweden puppy. From the outer appearance forth the later C202 saw the L3314 / 5 very similar, the laity are principally the modified door handles, turn signals and tail lights as well as the sublime side cheek of the C202 in contrast to L3314 / 5. The differences in interior and especially the technology are comprehensive. On behalf of the Swedish Armed Forces the L3314 / 5 followed in the 70s, his successor, called the C30x series with the ( civilian) designations C303, C304 and C306. This series was, however, much larger, heavier and more expensive than the first series Laplander L3314 / 5 For this reason, a manageable commercial and municipal customers target group (electricity companies such as Vattenfall, emergency services, Bergwachten technical aid agencies, etc. ) wanted a more adequate successor to the L3314 as it was the C30x series. This compact, lightweight, versatile and cost-effective general-purpose transport vehicle. To meet this customer and market justice, 1977-1981 Volvo stand at Hungarocamion in Hungary in 3222 copies the C202 as exclusively finished. The C202 is therefore the only purely civilian Laplander series and was - never been used militarily - at least in Sweden. As a civilian model was, accordingly, the board voltage exclusively in the usual 12 - volt models.

The body of sheet steel was designed in two parts: For all body styles as the basis acted a pickup -like basic body, it came with the so-called " covered personnel carrier version" a Solid screwed hard top ( called the instruction manual, this variant the " very subdued steel body " ) or. during the so-called " platform design " a tarpaulin top (so-called " covered cab and open steel pick-up" ). A third variant was produced in even smaller quantities and now almost extinct Canvas version, a full convertible without doors. If desired, you could order the cargo space with six folding seats. So you only had a 4.0 -meter-long eight -seater all-terrain troop carrier.

The B18A previously used in the L3314 with 1.8 liter displacement and 68 hp was not used any further in the C202, instead its proven Volvo built from the 240 - passenger car series B20A with 2.0 liter displacement and 82 hp. In addition, the stronger gearbox M45 was taken over by a short time before featured cars Volvo 244. Was here flanged developed by Volvo itself transfer case FD51, the distributed force with a dog clutch on the two drive shafts. In contrast to L3314 all-wheel drive has not been activated mechanically by a lever, but with pneumatically powered by the negative pressure of the intake manifold vacuum cylinders. Of course there were normally fitted with a reduction gear, worth highlighting the option of a coupled thereto ( mounted in front of the rear axle) winch and / or a PTO to drive a wide variety of attachments should be ordered, which nowadays sought-after collector features are. The top speed of the car was specified at 115 km / h the consumption ranges between 12-13 liters in Asphalt long-distance running and up to about 30 liters in off-road operation.

Due to the specific targeted customer group offered Volvo from the outset the three basic body styles box, pickup and canvas in numerous special versions, eg, ambulance bodies, crane lorries, fire fighting vehicles, etc. Unfortunately ( from today's collectors point of view) it remained in the majority these body styles with a few colorful fantasy -provoking little picture of them in the former prospectuses, not once were prototypes of the most " Konstrukteurs-/Marketingstrategen-Plänen " of them ever built. The only exists today still in running order approx 5 copies special version of the C202 is the so-called Iceland version. This is around the time already rare and almost unsaleable Canvas variant (full convertible) that shipped 150 units to Reykjavik / Iceland and there by a local company expanded ( with no more far nachzurecherchierendem company name ) in individualized designs exactly as per customer motorhome similar been. Main feature of this small series are great smoke black side windows, one no longer hinged front plate ( instead of folding sun roof), the only without the rear window opening rear, at last the longed- wide side door similar to the C30x (instead of the 2 small Aufklappluken on both sides of the vehicle at the standard C202 ), a homely interior woodwork in a burgundy velor fabric, the reduction of extending far into the interior of the rear passengers bonnet lid and the associated relocation of the vehicle battery from the engine compartment into the interior under a single stool, and other minor changes. Exist on the European continent today by this version only 1 in 2007 imported copy.

The entire C202 series was never officially sold by Volvo outside of Scandinavia, so do not know even today many Volvo dealers even of the existence of this Volvo vehicle. The few 10 or 20 came as new vehicles to Germany C202 were gray imported by traders or individuals. Most likely you can still today find staff in the German Volvo Truck Centers, which belongs to her ( long ) career here and there from the Volvo Laplander or have even seen a copy since the C202- series in Sweden on Volvo Truck Center has been sold. Interestingly, however, there is the entire workshop manuals on the series in German language, the German as the user must read for collectors and C202- C202 screwdriver.

Today's inventory

Due to the nowadays extremely low existence of numbers less than 50 in running copies prices for Volvo C202 move in Germany from 5000 € ( in need of restoration ) and 10,000 € ( good ride ready condition, body usually with rust damage ) to € 20,000 ( toprestaurierte cars without rust ).

The spare parts situation is concerning the identical with the Volvo 240 car series engine parts easily, with respect to Laplander - specific parts ( axles, transmissions, lighting, fittings, etc. ) it looks, however, gloomy, the last new ones are even from the Volvo central warehouses disappeared in the Netherlands and Sweden and the collectors and lovers Laplander has to settle for used parts or remakes rühriger small Swedish companies.
