VoroneÈ› Monastery

The monastery Voroneţ (Romanian Mănăstirea Voroneţ ) is located in Romania near the town of Gura Humorului in the village Voroneţ. The lying within the monastery walls Sfântul Gheorghe Church ( " St. George " ) was included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1993 together with other churches in Moldavia. The other monastery buildings are no longer present.

History

Stephen the Great built a legend, the monastery Voroneţ to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Vaslui. The famous monastery church of Saint George was built as Trikonchos in the period from May 26 to September 14, 1488. It was only in 1547 - during the reign of Stefan's son, Petru Rares - the canopy was added and the already planned to start of construction painting of the church exterior walls, under the supervision of the Bishop Grigore Roscas whose bones are buried there at the end.

Frescoes

Because of the excellent frescoes, the church is also called the "Sistine Chapel of the East". Is the representation of the Last Judgement on the entire west exterior wall of the building.
