VR Class Sr2

The Sr2 series is after the second Sr1 electric locomotive, which was obtained from the Finnish State Railways VR. There, the track gauge is 1520 mm. The Sr2 comes in both the travel as well as freight service to use and has a maximum speed of 210 km / h

History

The Sr2 locomotive belongs to the 2000 family and rejects, by design, very reminiscent SBB Re 460 and BLS Re 465. Another variation of this type has acquired the Norwegian State Railways in the form of NSB El 18. After an international tender by the Finnish State Railways ( VR), the Swiss consortium SLM / ABB won in May 1992 against renowned European competitors. Thus, the Sr2 is primarily a development of the BLS Re 465 with an air chamber was ensured that the new locomotives a temperature of up to -50 ° can withstand. The requirement specification is required, that there shall be no more than five failures with an annual mileage of one million kilometers. The Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works (SLM ) and the Swiss- Swedish group Asea Brown Boveri (ABB, formerly BBC ) produced the ingredients. Due to the high rate of unemployment and shortage of foreign exchange in Finland, the construction of the Lokomotiv Boxes and final assembly had to be done there. The Swiss producer had manuals in Finnish for the engine driver and create the local workshop personnel.

The most significant changes to adapt to Finnish standards relate to the track width, the high-voltage equipment and the main transformer because of the contact wire voltage of 25 kV and installation of the central buffer coupling of the type SA- third In the second series (from Lok 3221 ) the engine Unilink couplings, SA3 -like dome heads were integrated with screw coupling. In contrast to the Swiss mechanical pantograph - fitting areas are not covered. The wider range of Finnish projects anyway laterally beyond the roof contour.

The first 20 locomotives were completed in 1996. In 1999, 20 more in 2000 and again six.
