Vražogrnac

Vražogrnac (Cyrillic: Вражогрнац ) is a village in eastern Serbia.

Geography and population

The village lies in the Opština Zaječar, Zaječar in Okrug, in the east of the country. The village is 111 meters above sea level, not far from the Serbian border with Bulgaria. The village lies on the banks of the Timok. Vražogrnac located 8 km from the center of the capital town Zaječar away.

Vražogrnac had in 2011 a population of 1090, while it was still 1340 inhabitants in 1991. After the last three population statistics, the population continues to fall.

The population of Vražogrnac represent 97% of Serbian Orthodox Serbs. It also members of the following ethnic groups live in the village: 16 Vlachs, Macedonians and 3 respectively a Yugoslav, Romanian, Bulgarian and Roma. The village consists of 469 households.

Demography

History

Vražogrnac is mentioned in documents from the 15th century. The village is populated with Serbian incumbent Serbs from this region and with newcomers from Kosovo and Old Serbia, who came to Vražogrnac in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Also attracted residents from the communities and places Pirot, Kalna, Crna Trava and Babusnica in the 60s of the 20th century the village. Vražogrnac one of the old Serbian places of the region.

In the center of town is the Serbian Orthodox church of the Holy Trinity in 1893.
