Vrbice (Břeclav District)

Vrbice ( German Wrbitz, formerly Michel village) is a village in the Czech Republic. It is located six kilometers northeast of Velkopavlovice and belongs to Okres Břeclav.

Geography

Vrbice is located in the southwest of Kyjovská pahorkatina. Surrounded by vineyards, the village is located on the left side above the valley of the hill Trkmanka Straz. North-east rise the Straz (333 m) and Kobylí vrch (334 m), in the southwest the Roviny (284 m) and northwest of the Kravi hora and Horni ochozy (328 m).

Neighboring towns are Kobylí in the north, Terezín and Cejc in the northeast, Čejkovice and Moravian Zizkov in the southeast, Velké Bílovice in the south, Trkmanice, Rakvice and Velkopavlovice the southwest, Bořetice in the west and Němčičky in the northwest.

History

The village was built around 1220 during the German colonization of South Moravia. The first written mention of Vrbic took place in 1222 in a document of the Olomouc Bishop Robert of England. The residents of Vrbic or Wurbitz were a free people, which was responsible Guard and military duties. When tightening the enemy troops on the Moravian frontier blazed on the highly visible Straz fire for warning the surrounding villages. Found shelter residents at approaching danger in the holes ( lochy ). As of 1269, the village was known as Michel village. Gepfarrt the village was to Čejkovice. To the owners of the village belonged from 1356 Vratislav of Vrbice and from 1381 Hrzka of Želevice. They were followed by the Lords of Soběbřich, Henry of Višňová and Protivec of Zástřizl. Kuna of Kunštát which is detectable as the owner of Vrbice since 1512, closed the village to the rule Čejkovice. Vrbice existed at the beginning of the 17th century from 41 property and the Freihofstraße Ondriašov yard. After the Battle of White Mountain Čejkovice was confiscated and transferred the Olomouc Jesuit. In hooves register of 1656 25 economies and the Freihofstraße are reported as desolate. Parish registers have been kept since 1706. The oldest town seal of Wrbicze dates from 1749. During the same year the village was gepfarrt after Kobylí. The name Michel village was still being used up to 1750 in the German language and then went out completely. After the dissolution of the Jesuit order Čejkovice fell with all accessories 1773 the kk Study funds. 1783 Emperor Joseph II bought the estate Čejkovice and joined it to his rule Göding. The first school was built at the end of the 18th century, was previously teaching in Kobylí. 1808, the basic books were created. 1839 was built on the Straz a windmill. 1843 burned the village down almost completely. After the abolition of patrimonial Vrbice / Wrbitz formed in 1850 a municipality in the district team Auspitz. In 1861, parts of Vrbice were destroyed by six large fire. 1872 was a new school building with a turret. The volunteer fire department was founded 1908. During the same year the present school was built. 1910, construction began on the road to Kobylí. In 1930 the village had 1349 inhabitants. 1938, the district Auspitz / Hustopeče as a result of the Munich Agreement was dissolved. Vrbice remained in Czechoslovakia and was assigned to the Okres Židlochovice. Between 1942 and 1945 Wrbitz belonged to District Policy Göding and came back after the war to rebuilt Okres Hustopeče. After the abolition of Okres Hustopeče the community in 1960 associated with the Okres Břeclav. 1961 lived 1456 people in Vrbice.
