Vremya (magazine)

Vremya ( Время Russian, "time" ) was one of St. Petersburg's monthly magazine, published from 1861 to 1863. Editor was Mikhail Mikhailovich Dostoevsky, the older brother of Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky. In the magazine political articles and literary works appeared.

History

Background of the founding of the journal was to publish Dostoevsky's desire to own literary works without regard to third-party publishers. Moreover, he wanted the Potschwennitschestwo heard, a flow within the Slavophile movement, for Dostoevsky began glowing. Because of its political bias Dostoevsky could verlegerisch not act; as Vremya was founded in early 1861, so his brother Mikhail was officially the publisher.

Most of these authors were close to the Potschwennitschestwo, so a heated debate with the authors of the opponent's magazines Sovremennik and Russkoje slowo arose.

Vremya the audience was very successful and brought Dostoevsky so good revenue that he could not afford an extended trip through Europe in the summer of 1862. He wrote an essay Winter records of summer impressions, which also appeared in February 1863 in Vremya.

After the January Uprising in Poland Strakhov published in April 1863 article " A fateful question " about the Russian- Polish relations. The product was classified as critical of the government by the censorship. On 24 May 1863, the magazine was banned.

In March 1864, Fyodor Dostoevsky and Mikhail founded the magazine Epoca, should replace Vremya, but not nearly reached the success of its prototype.
