Vuelta a Cuba

The Cuban Cycling Tour (Spanish Vuelta a Cuba Ciclistica ) is a multi-day road race, which was held 1964-2010 a total of 35 times in February in Cuba. The Cuban tour is part of America Tour of the World Cycling Union and classified in the category 2.2.

Traditionally, the route of Baracoa, the most eastern city of Cuba, with stage arrivals in the major cities Guantanamo, Santiago de Cuba, Holguin, Las Tunas, Camagüey, Ciego de Ávila, Sancti Spiritus, Santa Clara and Cienfuegos goal in Havana. The route changes from year to year, so that even smaller cities like Morón be approached. Mountain finishes, there are, among others, in the Escambray Mountains ( Topes de Collantes ). Beginning of the tour is the drive over the mountain pass called La Farola from Baracoa to Guantanamo.

The only German overall winner was Olaf Jentzsch (1983).

The tour had to be canceled frequently for economic reasons, as in the years 1970, 1975, 1982, throughout the period from 1990 to 1999 (so-called " special period "), and again since 2011.
