Vysočina Region

The Highlands region, Czech Kraj highlands, is one of the 14 regions of the Czech Republic. The west of the region is historically part of Bohemia, the East is located in Moravia. Council is based in Jihlava ( Jihlava ). The area of the region form the districts of Jihlava, Havlíčkův Brod, Pelhřimov, Třebíč and Zdar nad Sázavou. In the region there are 704 municipalities with an average population of 725 people, including 33 cities. Most of forming communities and 500 inhabitants.

Landscape

The region occupies an area of ​​6796 km ² ( until 31 December 2005, it 6925 km ²) is centrally located in the Czech Republic. It borders the regions of Bohemia, Central Bohemia, Pardubice and South Moravia. Kraj Highlands is sparsely populated and is on average higher than other groups. The sparse population in small towns often leads to migration, especially of young people to the cities. The largest part of the area fills in the Bohemian- Moravian Highlands. The highest point is the Javořice ( Jaborschützberg ) with 837 m above sea level. M., the lowest Švihov the dam with 253 m above sea level. M. The mountain Melechov at Havlíčkův Brod ( Deutschbrod ) is referred to in some sources as the geographical center of Europe. The water and air pollution in the region is low. It is considered a water reservoir for the surrounding regions. In Kraj Highlands two large nature reserves were proclaimed, Zdarske Hills and the Iron Mountains.

Economy

94,000 businesses mean the last place in the ranking of the Czech Republic. Most settled in the Okres Třebíč ( 21 788 ) to (end- 2005). The gross domestic product of the region occupied by a share of 4 % was also the last place. The gross monthly salary is 18 069 Kč and is one of the lowest in the Czech Republic. Unemployment is about 7.1%, although there are significant regional differences: Okres Třebíč ( 11.14% ), Okres Pelhřimov ( 3.73 %). The traditional agriculture continues to play a significant role. Demography

Transport infrastructure

In the region there are three UNESCO World Heritage sites:

  • The historic center of Telc, one of the most beautiful old towns
  • The Sanctuary Zelena Hora from the 13th century in Zdar nad Sázavou with its Baroque Gothic
  • The Jewish Quarter and the Basilica of St. Prokop in Třebíč

Policy

Governor ( HEJTMAN ) the region since 2008, the non-party, the Social Democratic nominee for CSSD doctor Jiří Běhounek. He is the third HEJTMAN by František Dohnal ( KDU- CSL ) ( 2000-2004) and Miloš Vystrčil (ODS ) ( 2004-2008).

In the last elections of the region Parliament in October 2008, the CSSD was 29.62 % and 17 out of 45 seats again the strongest political force before the Communist KSČM with 19.57 % (11 mandates). On the Christian Democratic KDU- CSL accounted for 12.33 % or 7 seats and the conservative ODS 10.29 % and 5 seats. The regional grouping voters "Pro Vysočinu " ( For the Highlands ) was 6.38% and 3 seats. On the Civil TOP 09 accounted for 5.05 % and 2 seats. 16.1% of the votes were cast for parties that failed due to the electoral threshold of 5 %. The turnout was 41.05 %.

In the existing Regional Council from 10 persons are solely representative of the CSSD represented, which are tolerated by the KSČM in the region Parliament.
