Wajima (Ishikawa)

Wajima (Japanese轮 岛 市, -shi) is a city in the Japanese prefecture of Ishikawa on the Noto Peninsula.

Statewide awareness has been called the small town by its lacquerware, Wajima - nuri and therefore also carries the title Urushi no Sato, hometown of the paint.

The region was formerly ideal for paint production, as the lacquer tree very often occurred. Nowadays, however, the raw lacquer comes mostly from China to Wajima.

Geography

Wajima is located north of Kanazawa on the Noto Peninsula in the Sea of ​​Japan. In addition to the municipality includes the island Hegura -jima and the uninhabited island group Nanatsujima, several kilometers north of the Noto Peninsula.
