Waldemar Thrane

Waldemar Thrane ( born October 8, 1790 in Christiania ( now Oslo ), Norway, † December 30, 1828 ) was a Norwegian composer, violinist and conductor.

Thrane, who studied in Paris from 1814 to 1815, was the most prominent Norwegian musicians of his time and a pioneer of the Norwegian musical life. His music reveals influences of the Viennese Classical and Carl Maria von Weber. It is mainly because of his Singspiel Fjeldeventyret ( The adventure on the mountain ) of 1824 known to what Thrane allusions to Norwegian folk music fits.

His nephew, Marcus Thrane, was an early Norwegian socialists.
