Wallis Bird

Wallis Bird ( born January 29, 1982 at County Meath ) is an Irish musician. She lives and works in London and Dublin.

Life

Wallis Bird got from her father, a Pubbesitzer, given to her second birthday her first guitar. After she had an accident with a lawnmower at the age of one year, in which it had been cut off all the fingers of the left hand and only four fingers could be sewn back on, she developed over the years an extraordinary guitar style: She plays a Rechtshändergitarre reversed, without the strings re-clamp.

After school Wallis moved to the Irish capital, Dublin, to study music. During her studies Bird came to Germany to participate in an exchange. There she also learned some of their later band ( Christian Vinne - drums, Michael Vinne - bass), her producers (Marcus Wüst ) know. Other members of the band are Aoife O ' Sullivan ( a London- Irish ) and Aidan ( a living in Belgium Ire ). After first appearances in Ireland, Germany and England, Bird decided to move to Germany for 18 months. Here she spent a semester at the Pop Academy Baden- Württemberg in Mannheim and produced her debut EP Branches Untangle. The single from the Blossoms in the Street could hold twenty weeks in the German Top 100 Radio AP charts.

In September 2007, Bird released her over Iceland Records released their debut album entitled Spoons, what a lot of the shots in Germany arose. The album debuted in the first week after its publication in the top 5 of the UK music downloads album charts. 2008 took advantage of a great English newspaper Birds cover version of Depeche Mode 's classic Just Can not Get Enough publicity, in 2009 she won the Meteor Music Award in the category of Hope for 2009. In autumn 2009, Bird was invited to the Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela to join their European tour, where they played a total of 16 shows to over 50,000 people.

2009/10 was published with New Boots the next studio album Birds on Columbia Records and Rubyworks. It could go into Ireland at number 14 in the Irish album charts. In 2010, Wallis played over 90 shows throughout Europe. In the same year her METEOR Music Award was awarded in the Best Irish Female category.

In March 2012, Wallis Bird publish their eponymous, third album. It rose in the Irish album charts at number 11, also she reached for the first time the German and Austrian Top 100 For promotional purposes Bird has appeared in various TV shows, including the The Late Late Show and Inas night.

Music

The music of Wallis Bird is very complex and multifaceted. It drew up step by step its reputation as an artist, their songs, influenced by Irish folk to rock to jazz and contemporary music, all writes itself. A deep rootedness to handmade music in the style of traditional Irish songwriter culture is clearly visible.

The Irish music magazine Hotpress Magazine wrote: " Wallis is an extraordinary and compelling artist whose voice is a mix of Janis Joplin in its early days and Eva Cassidy. Definitely an artist after you should look for. "
