Walter Borho

Walter Borho (* December 27, 1945 in Hamburg) is a German mathematician who deals with algebra and number theory.

Borho studied 1967-1972 Physics and Mathematics at the University of Hamburg, where he received his doctorate in 1973 at Ernst Witt ( whole essence extensions of commutative rings). After five years he was a research assistant and later assistant at the University of Bonn, where he habilitated in 1977 and was a lecturer. He is since 1977 professor at the University of Wuppertal. Calls to Hamburg and Vienna, he refused in 1983. He was a research stay including in the U.S., Canada, Japan, Italy, France, Great Britain and Israel.

Borho deals with representation theory, Lie algebras and Lie groups, algebraic groups, ring theory and number theory ( Friends figures ) and tilings.

In 1986 he was Invited Speaker ( orbits nilpotent primitive ideals and characteristic classes - a survey ) at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Berkeley.
