Walter Corbett

Walter " Watty " Samuel Corbett ( * November 26, 1880 in Wellington, Shropshire, † 1955 in Birmingham) was an English footballer.

Sports career

Corbett played during his school days in the school team of Vicarage Road Council & King Edward Grammar School. Then the defender played for FC Thornhill, Richmond Astbury, FC Headingley and Soho Villa, clubs were all located in the Handsworth, a suburb of Birmingham. He then played for FC Bournbrook before joining Aston Villa in June 1904. In July 1907 he moved to FC Birmingham for it until May 1911 with the exception of two brief interruptions ( Queens Park Rangers in September 1907, and Wellington Town in April 1909), played.

For the English national Corbett played in 1908 in just seven days three games during the first European tour of the English national team. So he stood at the victories against Austria (6:1) on June 6, Hungary ( 7-0 ) on June 10 and Bohemia (4-0 ) in their last international match on June 13 in the square.

At the Olympic football tournament in 1908 he won the gold medal in the amateur national team. Overall, he played 18 times for the amateur team.
