Walter Demel

Walter Demel ( born December 1, 1935 in Bayreuth, Bavaria) is a former German cross-country skiers.

Life

The trained roofer went with 18 years for Federal Deggendorf. There he was discovered at age 22 for Nordic skiing. Demel, which is since 1960 a member of the SC Zwiesel, operated from 1957 to 1987 performance sport, including in the period 1961-1976 in the national team of the German Ski Association. At the opening ceremony of the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, he was standard bearer of the German team.

From 1978 to 1985 Walter Demel was cross-country coach at the Bavarian Ski Association and 1982-1987 Fachwart long run. The Polizeihauptmeister in BGS A.D. lives in Bayreuth. His greatest achievement was winning the bronze medal over 30 km at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1966 in Oslo, Norway. Demel is a member of the SPD and was over 40 years of city council in his hometown of Bayreuth.
