Walter Janssen

Walter Janssen ( born February 7, 1887 in Krefeld, † January 1, 1976 in Munich; native Walter Philipp Janssen ) was a German actor and director.

Life

He began his theatrical career in 1906 in Frankfurt am Main, then worked from 1908 to 1910 in Kassel, and from 1910 to 1915 in Frankfurt again. From 1915 to 1918 he worked in Munich and in 1919 at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. Guest performances have taken him to London.

In 1917 he made ​​his first film appearance. In 1921, he starred in the classic The tired young husband 's death, stood here but in the shadow of Lil Dagover who wrestles as his wife desperately for his life. In braid and Sword ( 1926) he played Crown Prince Friedrich, in Mary Stuart (1927), Lord Darnley.

With the transition to sound film era Janssen had to be content with supporting roles more and more. He introduced himself directed a few times. In the sixties, he participated in several television dramas. He again focused more on the world of the theater, was in the forties director of the Vienna Chamber games and led the Marburger Festival. He had his last theater appearance in 1971 in The Cherry Orchard by Chekhov at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg.

In 1968 he received the Film Award for many years of excellent work in the German film.

He was buried in the cemetery Unterschleißheim ( grave already abandoned ).
