Walter Kappacher

Walter Kappacher ( born October 24, 1938 in Salzburg) is an Austrian writer.

Life

He grew up in Salzburg, Kappacher graduated after attending the elementary and secondary school teachers and journeyman years as a motorcycle mechanic. He was excited for a few years from motorcycle racing. After his military years, he developed an increasing interest for theater and began training in a drama school in Munich, which he broke off again. When determining interest became more and more reading and writing in the foreground. As a day job, he chose the work of a travel office businessman.

Kappacher has been writing since 1964. He first published in 1967 some short stories in the Stuttgarter Zeitung. 1978, after his fortieth birthday, he decided - with a screenwriting job in hand - to terminate and to live from writing. He wrote a series of stories and novels, as well as radio plays and television screenplays. Gero von Wilpert characterized Kappacher in his encyclopedia of world literature as " realistic narrator from the everyday working life of workers and employees in plain language." Erwin Chargaff recognizes the style of Walter Kappacher with the words: "He writes a kind of high swelling prose. Infinity lot of work goes into a style that is not at first perceive. "Within the largely influenced by author groupings contemporary Austrian literature takes a Kappacher one of the few maverick positions.

Kappacher lives in the upper strand. He is a member of the Austrian P.E.N. Clubs, the German Academy for Language and Poetry in Darmstadt and support of high-level prices and an honorary doctorate.
