Walter Krüger (athlete)

Walter Krüger ( born April 11, 1930 in Altenpleen ) is a former German athlete who at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 the silver medal in the javelin won ( 79.36 m - 66.51 to 71.23 - 75.23 to 72, 62 - invalid). In the race he benefited from a good first litter, as later in strong wind worsened the conditions and other launchers did not achieve the expected ranges. Walter Krueger started at these Olympic Games for the GDR within a common German team.

After a lengthy injury ended his sporting career in the spring of 1962 and became a coach. Later he worked as a sports teacher at a vocational school. Until 1990 he was honorary deputy mayor of the town of Gross Mohrdorf in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. He lives in Wendish Langendorf ( near Stralsund ) since 1977.

Walter Krueger started for the SC Traktor Schwerin. In his playing days he was 1.90 meters tall and weighed 93 kg.
