Walter Long (actor)

Walter Huntley Long ( born March 5, 1879 in Nashua, New Hampshire; † July 4, 1952 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American actor.

Life

Long began his film career at the New York film company Biograph, where he worked in David Wark Griffith's The Fugitive 1910 had his first film appearance. Until the mid- 1910s he was playing minor roles; the best known is that of the black rapist Gus in The Birth of a Nation (1915 ).

In the 1920s and 1930s, Long played, among other roles as crime boss and as a harsh master of the vessel. Particularly well known he was, however, through his many roles in the short and long films with Laurel and Hardy, as in Under Lock and Key ( 1931). Overall, Walter Long played 1910-1950 in over 200 films.
