Walter Preston (Virginia)

Walter Preston ( born July 18, 1819 in Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia; † November 1867 ) was a well-known and prominent Confederate politician. He was a distant cousin of William Ballard Preston.

Preston graduated in 1839 from Princeton University, and in 1842 at Harvard University. Later he decided to pursue a political career when he was a candidate in 1857 for the office of Attorney General of Virginia. After the secession of his state he represented it in the Provisional and 1 Konföderiertenkongress.

Walter Preston was married to Agatha Garnett Peyton from Roanoke, Virginia. The couple had four children together: Elizabeth Arthur, Ellen, Walter Montgomery and Susan Madison.
