Walter Rossi

Walter Rossi was an American sound engineer who won an Oscar for best special effects, plus two more times was nominated for an Oscar for best sound effects.

Life

Rossi began his career as a sound engineer in the film industry in Hollywood in 1953 with the epic film The Robe ( The Robe ) by Henry Koster starring Richard Burton, Jean Simmons and Victor Mature in the lead roles. He worked until 1970 in the production of only seven films.

At the Academy Awards 1958 Rossi won the Oscar for best special effects in the staged by Dick Powell war film Duel in the Atlantic ( The Enemy Below, 1957) with Robert Mitchum, Curd Jürgens and David Hedison.

In 1966, he was first nominated for the Oscar for best sound effects, and indeed for the war film Colonel Ryan's Express ( Von Ryan 's Express, 1965) by Mark Robson with the main actors Frank Sinatra, Trevor Howard and Edward Mulhare. A second nomination for an Oscar in this category got Rossi at the Academy Awards in 1967 for the science fiction film created and directed by Richard Fleischer The Fantastic Journey (Fantastic Voyage, 1966 ), in which Stephen Boyd, Raquel Welch and Edmond O ' Brien played the lead roles.
