Walter Wislicenus

Walter Friedrich Wislicenus ( born November 5, 1859 in Halberstadt, † October 3, 1905 in Strasbourg, Alsace, typhus ) was a German astronomer. He was a son of Adolf Timothy Wislicenus and nephew of the pastor Gustav Adolf Wislicenus.

From 1880 he was an astronomer at the Strasbourg Observatory, from 1889 lecturer and from 1894 to 1897 Associate Professor of Astronomy at the University of Strasbourg.

He founded in 1899 the review journal Celestial annual report and published the first years; The yearbook was in 1969 replaced by the semi- annual Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts.

After him the asteroid ( 4588 ) Wislicenus and a crater on Mars are named.
