Walthard

Waltard (also Walthard, Walther, * 960; † August 12, 1012 at Giebichenstein ) was Archbishop of Magdeburg in 1012.

Life

His parents were of the noble Lord Erp of Meyendorf, probably from the Haolden clan, and Amulrad (also Amilrath ), a Countess of Mars life. His brother was Liudolf, which is expressed from 1016 with county rights in space Buren, Lippstadt and Soest. His sister Amulrad married Count Konrad von Morsleben and Horne castle and became the mother of Pope Clement II bequeathed to the church at the village of Magdeburg Olvenstedt.

Waltard was in Magdeburg since Hochstiftskanoniker 981 and from 984 Präpositus.

His election as Archbishop by the cathedral chapter in 1004 was rejected by King Henry II for unknown reasons. It was not until 1012 he could take office, but died after only three months.
