Wanda Sykes

Wanda Sykes ( born March 7, 1964 in Portsmouth, Virginia ) is an American actress.

Life and achievements

Sykes grew up in Maryland and graduated from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. She made her debut as a comedian at the Coors Light Super Talent Showcase in Washington, DC. Later she joined Comedy Showcase radio station Home Box Office in the TV show on HBO.

In the years 1997 to 2000 Sykes played in the television show, The Chris Rock Show, appeared in Chris Rock in the lead role. For this, she won an Emmy Award in 1999, in the years 1998, 2000 and 2001, she was nominated for an Emmy Award. In 2001, she was honored with the American Comedy Award.

Sykes played in 2003 starring in the television series Wanda at Large. For this role she was nominated in two categories for the Teen Choice Award 2003. In 2004 she was nominated for a Golden Satellite Award and a BET Comedy Award.

In the comedy -Law Monster (2005), Sykes appeared in a major role opposite Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda, for which she received the BET Comedy Award 2005. In the comedy Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006 ), she is seen on the side of Uma Thurman and Luke Wilson.

Sykes was married from 1991 to 1998 with the record producer Dave Hall, the marriage ended in divorce.

In a demonstration for the recognition of same-sex unions in the United States on November 15, 2008 in Las Vegas, she announced that she got married last month in California, her female partner. On 27 April 2009 brought Sykes ' wife give birth to twins.
