Wang ocheonchukguk jeon

Wang ocheonchukguk jeon is a travelogue that coming from Korea Buddhist monk Hyecho who has traveled from 723 bis 727/728 AD India. The work was written in ancient Chinese and is one of the great Buddhist travelogues.

It is the Korean transliteration of the Chinese word Chinese往 五 天竺 国 传, Pinyin wǎng wǔ Tian zhú guó Chuan. It is a compound word from wang ( 왕 ,往: " travel through " ), o ( 오 ,五" five " ), cheonchuk ( 천축 ,天竺: "India " ), guk ( 국 ,国, " Country " ) and jeon ( 전 ,传" narrative report "). That means " travelogue about five Indian lands ." " Five countries of India " does not apply to states, but on areas of India. The author calls these countries simply by compass: East, West, South, North and Middle India. This name was common in China and Korea because of the Indian subcontinent, little was known for the then current understanding of large and strangers to locate the boundary of individual countries was exactly.
