Wank (mountain)

View from the Loisachtal to Wank

Prepared starting from Wank paragliders before Wettersteingebirge

The Wank is a mountain in the southwest of Ester Mountains near Garmisch -Partenkirchen with a height of 1780 m above sea level. NN. The name comes from an old word for " slope " back; the mountain was once called corner mountains.

Since 1928, the Wank is a cable car, the Wankbahn, accessed from Garmisch- Partenkirchen. In 1982, the old Wankbahn was replaced by a modern cable car circulation. The almost all year managed Wankhaus ( Alois Huber House ) was built by the DAV section Garmisch -Partenkirchen 1911.

The Wankaufstieg is an easy hike without major difficulties. In addition to the rise in the vicinity of the cable car, there are still opportunities for advancement from the swimming pool in Farchant on the ester -Alm or by Gschwandtner farmers (east of Garmisch -Partenkirchen on the road towards Mittenwald ). At the peak offers outstanding views. In addition, the Wank a good starting point for a flight with a paraglider in the south on the Garmisch- Partenkirchen valley to the peaks of Wettersteingebirge. A worthwhile route that runs along the west side of the mountain is the Hüttelsteig leading from the middle station of Wankbahn to Esterbergalm.

On the northeast side was formerly a small ski area, which is closed since 2003/ 4: the former four ski lifts are largely degraded, the slopes to grow.
