War Horse (play)

Companions ( in the original English War Horse ) is a stage play based on the book in misfortune ( also in the original War Horse ) by Michael Morpurgo. The adaptation for the stage got Nick Stafford, the German version comes from John of duffel.

Background

The piece was developed for the National Theatre, and had there on October 17, 2007 premiere. After two successful seasons, it was transferred to the West End in 2009 and ran there from March 2009 at the New London Theatre.

Originally thought Morpurgo, one would have to be " crazy " to try to make a play from his best seller of 1982. The piece, however, was an immediate success.

The West End and Broadway productions were directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, the choreography of horses dolls came from Toby Sedgwick. Fundamental part of the theater production are around 20 puppets of Handspring Puppet Company of Cape Town. For these figures Handspring was in New York in 2011 awarded with a Tony Award.

On 20 October 2013, the German -language premiere took place at the Theatre of the West in Berlin, in a co-production by Stage Entertainment and the UK's Royal National Theatre. For the lead role of Father Ted in early 2013 the television actor Heinz Hoenig was committed. For Berlin, a completely new team of Puppeteers was found, which began in late July 2013 with samples.
