Warmbad ( Nama: | Aixa - aibes ) is a village on the famous old river source Hom Rivier in the region ǁ Karas in the extreme southeast of Namibia, near the border with South Africa. The town has, among other things, built in 1810 mission church as well as internationally famous thermal springs. Warmbad is located around 720 meters above sea level in a dry, temperate climate of Namaland highlands, between the climate of the southern Namib desert and the east adjoining steppe climate.

History

First mentioned in 1760, Warmbad was since the 18th century, a meeting point of merchants, big game hunters and missionaries who came from the southern Cape Colony. The place was also the center of the old-established Namibian Nama and refuge of European colonialism before escaping, uprooted Nama from the Cape Province. Between the years 1805 and 1810, Christian and Abraham Albrecht founded a mission station destroyed during the uprising Orlam 1811 and was built in 1834 by Edward Cook of the Wesleyan Missionary Society again on behalf of the London Missionary Society. The Rhenish Missionary Society took over the mission in 1867. Missionary work was several times, including in 1903, interrupted by the Bondelswartaufstand against the German colonial rule.

Today Warmbad is a popular destination for tourists and Namibia ( as Grunau ) a vibrant community especially by Afrikaners and Nama.
