Wayne Henderson (footballer)

Wayne Henderson ( born September 16, 1983 in Dublin) is an Irish football goalkeeper.

Playing career

Henderson's career began at Cherry Orchard, until he moved to Aston Villa in 2001. He never played for the first team of Aston Villa, but was the No. 1 junior selection, the FA Youth Cup won in 2002. During his time at Villa, he was loaned out five times. In March 2004, he was loaned to FC Tamworth between April and May 2004. At the Wycombe Wanderers, between August 2004 and January 2005 at Notts County and between August 2005 and January 2006 at Brighton & Hove Albion Since 31 January 2007, he plays for Preston North End.

International career

Wayne played in his career so far 6 times for Ireland, among other things, against Sweden (3-0 ), Chile (0-1), Czech Republic ( 1-1) and San Marino ( 2-1 ). The first appointment was for the game on 1 March 2006 against Sweden. At the Junior World Cup in 2003, he represented the Irish U -20 team.

Private

A native of Dublin family owns a goalkeeper tradition. His father, Paddy Henderson, played in the 1960s for the Irish top club Shamrock Rovers. His brothers Dave and Steven played in the 1980s and 1990s successfully in the League of Ireland. His nephew Stephen, currently active for Bristol City, and Sam, who is still at school, are currently conducting further the goalkeeping tradition in the family with Wayne.
