webtrees

Webtrees is a free web application to display phylogenetic trees and work with genealogy information in GEDCOM format. It is based on PHP and MySQL on the server side with client-side JavaScript components. The version 1.5.x requires PHP 5.3 or higher.

History

Webtrees was cleaved from PhpGedView early 2010. This is already second (after the split end of 2005 GENMOD ) cleavage is supported by the majority of active PhpGedView developers who no longer wanted to continue to work on SourceForge. This was due to local problems in the export of encrypted software.

Program Description

The program is installed on a web server and allows users the joint care of the genealogical data. To exchange data with external genealogy programs GEDCOM files are used (Standard 5.5.1). The ancestors of data be entered and edited directly through the web interface by different users, with a sophisticated authorization system regulates access.

Various display options for the genealogical data are available, including ancestors and family book - diagram representation as " hourglass", pedigree or descendants tree. Other functions are the life-span display ( parallel representation of the " life bar " of several people) or the calculation of the affinity relationship between two people. In addition to personal, family, local and source lists, the program has an internal calendar that lists as day, month or year view the dates contained. There is a full text search and more search functions, can be limited by the large volumes of data. This includes the Soundex search ( name is written search ).

The administrator has extensive configuration options for presentation of information and rights management. The user can choose between different views (English " themes " ), select his language for operating interface and configure its startup portal.
