PhpGedView

PhpGedView is a free web application to display phylogenetic trees and working with genealogical data according to the GEDCOM format. It was founded by John Finlay, who also directs the project.

The program will be installed along with a GEDCOM file on a Web server. To create, edit and upload the GEDCOM file can be an external genealogy program can be used. However, the data can be entered directly into PhpGedView by different users through the web interface and processed. Up to version 3 worked PhpGedView also without a database in an index mode on files. Since version 4, a database is needed, and MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server or SQLite are available. Since PhpGedview version 4.2.2 at least PHP version 5.2 is required.

Functions

There are several display options for the genealogical information available, including ancestors and family book - diagram representation as " hourglass", pedigree or descendants tree.

In addition to personal, family, local and source lists, the program includes a calendar function, as the day, month or year view the dates contained lists (eg " NN, today: 227th anniversary of the death ").

There are a full text search and more search functions, can be limited by the large volumes of data. This includes the Soundex search ( name is written search ), but works not quite reliable because the pronunciation German umlauts will be ignored.

Management

The administrator has extensive configuration options in the categories: Gedcom Basics, Multimedia, access and privacy, and screen layout, editing options, user options, contact information, configuration META tags. He may, inter alia, enable or allow different themes, support for 22 languages.

The program offers a multi-level user management for the functions:

Each registered user can compile his own MyGedView Portal.
