Weenen ( Afrikaans for ' cry ') is a city in the South African province of KwaZulu -Natal. It is located in the municipality in the district Umtshezi Uthukela. It was founded in 1838 by the Voortrekkers shortly after the massacre at Weenen the Zulu to the Boers. The massacre was also the reason for the name.
