The Weida is a non- navigable river in the East Thuringian district of Greiz.

Geography

The Weida arises from the Saxon Pausa / Vogtl. and flows for a short section in Saxony by the Thuringian Slate Mountains to Zeulenroda passing through the same city Weida. After 57 km river it flows near Wünschendorf in the Weisse Elster. Its tributaries include the drive, the Auma and Leuba.

In Zeulenroda Weida is dammed further downstream to Zeulenroda and Weidatalsperre, which was both serve the flood control and from which gained to 2012 drinking water. Before the construction of dams, numerous mills were at the Weida. Of them today only a few remain.

Between the breakpoint Schüptitz and the City Weida the railway Mehltheuer - Weida -Gera follows the Weidatal.

History

In the High Middle Ages was called the river Milde, whereupon the name Mildenfurth suggesting.
