Geographical Location
Wellsville is located in northeastern Kansas, about 60 kilometers southwest of Kansas City. To the southeast lies the Hillsdale Lake.

The next largest cities are in the Northeast and Gardner in southwest Ottawa.
History
In the 50s of the 19th century, the first settlement began in the region of Wellsville. The city itself was founded by Shoot, Root and Wells named for Wells. With the completion of the construction of the Santa Fe Railroad in 1870, the city has continued to rise. The first development plan on May 1, 1872 by PO Elder published and accepted as official city map. The city was listed as such on July 8, 1884.

According to the last census in 2000 lived in Wellsville 1606 people in 636 households and 435 families. The population density was 738.2 per km ². There were 666 housing units at an average density of development of 306.1 per km ². The population was composed of:
