Welse

The catfish is a left tributary of the Oder. The 52 km long river comes from the Great Präßnicksee in the northern district of Barnim and ends at Schwedt / Oder in the Hohensaaten- Friedrichsthaler waterway.

In the upper reaches of the catfish is largely unregulated, also receives water from the northern end of the Grimnitzsees, and is as quiet lowland river to the Wolletzsee. From here it goes first to the fish ponds at the mill by Blumberg Görlsdorf that belongs to Angermuende. At just 10 kilometers from there to the Welsebruch loses the river about 30 meters. In Welsebruch flows from the north to the southern part of the Randow one. 17 km further opens the catfish at Vierraden in the port Schwedt in the Hohensaaten- Friedrichsthaler waterway, at sea level.

During construction of the Hohensaaten- Friedrichsthaler waterway, not least created on the western edge of the Oder valley to drain the Oderbruchs, the lower reaches of the catfish was widened and included in this channel, which is why the original estuary has been lost in the Oder.
