Welver–Sterkrade railway

The railway line Welver - Sterkrade is a formerly continuous rail route from the Westphalian Welver after Sterkrade in the western Ruhr area, today only four cuts in operation. Due to its course along the Emscher it was also called " Westphalian Emscher Valley Railway ".

History

The line was built by the Royal Westphalian Railway Company ( WfE ) to make the connection to their hitherto mainly the north and east route network leading to the Ruhr area in the west with its lucrative mines and industrial plants.

Werl - Dortmund

Already in 1847 the Cologne -Minden Railway Company had the part Dortmund- Hamm opened their regular route, they followed south parallel to the railway line in 1855 Dortmund- Soest Bergisch- Märkischen Railway Company.

The WfE solidified their own route from Werl to their railway Hamm- Warburg between the two existing routes through and opened on 15 May 1876, the first section to Dortmund. Bodelschwinghstraße - Bismarck

The section between (Dortmund ) Bodelschwinghstraße and Crange was decommissioned on 1 July 1882.

The tracks between Castrop- Pöppinghausen and Herne were first subsequently used as a port of the former Zeche Friedrich the Great, as well as connecting track of pits and the pits 3/4/6 1/2.

Werl - Königsborn

Current situation

The sections Unna King Born- Dortmund Südbf and Dortmund- Dorstfeld -Dortmund- Mengede were prepared together with the Rhine section Dortmund Südbf -Dortmund- Dorstfeld in the 1990s for the S -Bahn completely new and partly equipped with a new VzG number.
