Werner Arnold

Werner Arnold ( born June 11, 1931 in Oberlungwitz ) is a former German weightlifter.

Career

The Saxony-born Werner Arnold grew up in his birthplace and learned the saddler. As a strong young man, he turned to weight lifting and started at the BSG "chemistry" Chemnitz with this sport. There, a successful weightlifter center had been formed under the direction of Herbert Svejkovski. Later he started also for BSG Chemie, Karl -Marx-Stadt and SC Motor Karl- Marx-Stadt. Soon first successes came for Werner Arnold. In 1953 he occupied at the then total German discharged German Youth Championships 2nd place in the heavyweight and overall 1954 German junior champion. Throughout his career, he also came to some international operations. In 1960 he represented Germany at the Olympic Games in Rome. In 1964 he failed in the Olympic qualification by three invalid attempts in the Press. After 1955, the East German athletes started only in the GDR championships. Werner Arnold scored in these excellent results to 1965 and was six times GDR champion in the heavyweight division. He was the first heavyweight in the GDR, which reached international level.
