Manfred Rieger

Manfred Rieger ( born April 25, 1941 in Zittau ) is a former German weightlifter.

Career

Manfred Rieger was one of three Zittau weightlifters that began in the late 1950s at the BSG Motor Zittau under coach Heinz Kahl with weight lifting and managed the leap in a few years into the world's elite. The other two were Werner Dittrich and Karl Arnold ( weightlifting ). Manfred Rieger was the most severe of these athletes. He started getting in the heavyweight and super heavyweight. In these classes, he was with a body weight of about 115 kg in turn always one of the most lightweight lifters.

He turned the snatches and cleans to the failure of technology, the more remarkable were his best performances of 575 kg in powerlifting, press 192.5 kg, 170 kg snatch and 212.5 kg thrusting. Proven in the squatting technique that is applied without exception in modern times, to achieve some better lines than with the failure. Manfred Rieger scored as a junior in 1960 already 380 kg in the Olympic triathlon was in 1962 with 417.5 kg behind Kurt Stemplinger from Leipzig runner-up in the GDR and in 1963 won the East German championship with 442.5 kg, this time in front Stemplinger. 1964, 1968 and 1972 he competed in the Olympic Games. After the Games in Munich in 1972, he finished his career. In Gerd Bonk a powerful successor had grown.

GDR Championships

Manfred Rieger was seven times GDR champion in the all around and won from 1969 to 1972, eight East German Championship titles in the individual disciplines Press, Snatch and jerk.
