Bob Bednarski

Bob Bednarski (* 1944 † 22 February 2004) was an American weightlifter.

Career

Bob Bednarski operating as a youth athletics and football, but already came with 15 years of weight-lifting. In the Pacific Barbell Club he trained hard, and put the U.S. Championships in 1963 with 139 kg a junior world record in the Middle Heavyweight ( up to 90 kg body weight). He continued to develop positively and reached in January 1966 as the winner of the Philadelphia heavyweight championship 495 kg. In the same year he was second in the U.S. championship in the heavyweight division with 512.5 kg, beating even Norbert Schemansky. At the World Championships he won twice the second and even third place. He was unlucky in 1968, when he was indeed with excellent 580 kg USA champion in the heavyweight division, but finished only third in the crucial U.S. Olympic excretion and thus not nominated for the Olympic Games in Mexico City. Very unfortunate for him ran the World Championships 1969 in Warsaw. After pressing, he led a surprise before the big favorites Jaan Talts from the USSR with 7.5 kg lead. As Talts forced tacted in pushing, the supervisor Bednarskis could make you nervous and increased after Bednarski had pushed 205 kg and it was not necessary, also desired for the last test weight and then exceeded supposedly the time limit of 2 minutes, that each Heber for a trial is available. The American caregivers were arguing while this is from, claiming that the increase had been registered with the judges 20 seconds before the time limit expires, but the jury, in which the representatives of the Eastern Bloc countries were in the majority, gave the judges right. At the final ceremony Talts, nothing for the action was, was considered by the Polish audience with a shrill whistling while Bednarski, whose great-grandparents were from Poland, was widely acclaimed.

Bob Bednarski lifted until 1973 and, after finishing his career in 1973 businessman in the sporting goods area. He already died at age 60 in 2004.
