Werner Guballa

Werner Guballa ( born October 30, 1944 in Marie Born ( near Mainz ), Germany, † February 27, 2012 in Mainz ) was Auxiliary Bishop of Mainz.

Life

After graduation Guballa studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, starting in 1966 at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. On October 10, 1970 Guballa received by Johannes Cardinal Willebrands in Rome, the sacrament of Holy Orders. At the Gregoriana he was in 1975 with the work The Jus [ jus ] divinum the confessio integra Melchior Cano OP Dr. theol. PhD; his doctor father was the 2012 Cardinal created dogmatist Karl Josef Becker SJ. Guballa was first chaplain in St. George in Bensheim. In 1977 he became chancellor of the diocesan seminary and economist in Mainz. In 1982 he was entrusted by Hermann Cardinal Volk with the management of the University Catholic Community of St. Albertus in Mainz. In 1991 he took over the parish of St. Ludwig in Darmstadt. A year later Guballa was elected Dean of the Deanery Darmstadt. On 1 October 1996 Werner Guballa was the successor of Martin Luley vicar general in the diocese of Mainz, and was appointed canon resident and a member of the clergy Council.

On 20 February 2003, he was appointed by John Paul II in Mainz titular bishop of Catrum and auxiliary bishop. The episcopal ordination he received together with the likewise appointed auxiliary bishop in Mainz Ulrich Neymeyr on April 21, 2003 at Mainz Cathedral by Cardinal Karl Lehmann. Co-consecrators were a native of the diocese of Mainz Apostolic Nuncio to Belgium and Luxembourg, Karl Josef Rauber, and Auxiliary Bishop of Mainz Wolfgang Rolly. His episcopal motto Fides by caritatem ( " faith active in love") is a short form of a verse from the book of Galatians ( Gal 5:6 EU).

Guballa in the diocese of Mainz was episcopal vicar for clergy and religious as well as for Caritas; he was also chairman of the Caritas Association for the Diocese of Mainz. At about the diocesan level, he was committed to the German Bishops' Conference of the commissions world church, marriage and family as well as science and culture, and for the pastoral care of the German universities.

The suffering from pancreatic cancer Guballa died in Mainz Vincent Hospital of pneumonia. On March 7, 2012 Werner Guballa was buried in the tomb of the Bishop of Mainz Cathedral.
