Werner Haas (Pianist)

Werner Haas ( born March 3, 1931 in Stuttgart, † October 11, 1976 in Nancy ) was a German pianist.

Life

Werner Haas grew up in Stuttgart -Feuerbach and studied at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart at Lilly Kröber ash and later with Walter Gieseking in Saarbrücken change from 1947 until 1955. After great success of his debut concerts in Stuttgart with, among others, the Piano Concerto No. 1 by Tchaikovsky and the 5. piano concerto by Beethoven he received after a concert in Paris an exclusive recording contract with Philips records.

In addition to his recording career he was a successful international solo concert pianist and orchestra soloist. His reputation in France and the United Kingdom surpassed his fame in Germany. However, he also played with the Lake Symphony Orchestra (now the South - West German Philharmonic ) in Konstanz at Heinz Hofmann, and the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra under Charles Münchinger the Piano Concerto No. 14 ( K. 449 ) by Mozart, among others, at the German Radio Exhibition in Stuttgart 1965 and came several times on radio and television.

For his exemplary Debussy and rave radiographs he was awarded the Grand Prix du Disc and the Edison Prize. Werner Haas was one of the first pianists who played Works for Piano and Orchestra by George Gershwin in Germany in concert ( in 1964 ). Late in his career, he played the piano concertos by Rachmaninov, including in Tehran. On the way back from a concert tour of Scandinavia and France, he was killed in a car crash in October 1976 near Nancy.
