Werner Lang

Richard Werner Lang ( born March 23, 1922 in Bermsgrün, † June 17, 2013 in Zwickau ) was a German engineer and automobile designer. He is considered one of the fathers of the Trabant 601

Career

According to a 1939 completed training to the former in black / Erzgeb. Long attended the local trade and vocational school. From 1940, he studied mechanical engineering and automotive engineering at the Engineering School of Zwickau. In 1941, he was drafted as a soldier for military service. In 1944 he was in Italy leading the way to the partisans. In 1945 he was able to resume his studies in Zwickau and Chemnitz again and closed in 1949 with the engineer examination.

From 1949 he worked for the carmaker Hark, from 1951 as its Technical Director. After merger of the works of Horch and Audi he was chief designer in 1958 of the VEB Sachsenring automotive and engine plant in Zwickau. In 1966 he was at the Dresden University of Technology with a thesis on problems of structural preparation in the automotive industry and the possibilities of shortening the Dr. -Ing. doctorate. From 1970 to 1983, he drew largely responsible for the development of the Trabant in his function as Director of Science and Technology of Sachsenring, as far as it allowed the GDR leadership. Thus, the Trabant was 603, having helped to develop the Lang as chief engineer by the SED Politburo, and here mainly by SED economy Boss Günter Mittag, prevented.
