Wernsdorf (Bavaria)

Werndorf is a municipality in the district of Strullendorf Bamberg in Upper Franconia, Bavaria.

2010 were counted in Werndorf 441 inhabitants.

Geography

Werndorf is assembled with the neighboring Amlingstadt. The village lies at an altitude of 281 m above sea level. NN. Werndorf is located on State Roads 2188 and 2210.

In the village is the Werndorf castle.

History

The story Wern village can be traced back several centuries. In the law book of Bishop Friedrich von Hohenlohe in 1348 explicitly from the village Werndorf Franconian castle, the present castle Werndorf, and the estate Klebhof, today Gasthof Schiller says. There are other records, which show that these two buildings existed before. The castle is probably on the ruins of a fortress that made Charlemagne built around 790 AD. The castle was one of the cornerstones of the West and was on a trade route, which resulted in the Slavic countries. The present castle was first documented around 1114. As lord of the manor at the time of the bishop of Bamberg was specified.

On January 1, 1972, until then independent municipality Werndorf was incorporated into the municipality Strullendorf.
