The village lies in the nature Samtgemeinde Gifhorn on the southern edge of the Lüneburg Heath and closes north of the city Gifhorn.

Samtgemeinde Mayor Walter Penshorn (CDU ) received in the direct election in the first round with 59.66 percent ( 3,550 votes), the required majority of the votes cast.

The Samtgemeinde beings village is on friendly terms since 1987 with the French municipalities Cuverville, Demouville and Sannerville (Normandy).
