The village lies in the nature Samtgemeinde Gifhorn on the southern edge of the Lüneburg Heath and closes north of the city Gifhorn.

Samtgemeinde Mayor Walter Penshorn (CDU ) received in the direct election in the first round with 59.66 percent ( 3,550 votes), the required majority of the votes cast.

The Samtgemeinde beings village is on friendly terms since 1987 with the French municipalities Cuverville, Demouville and Sannerville (Normandy). The new industrial area " Hammerstein Park " ( former Hammerstein barracks ) with its properties and its infrastructure was sold by the competent federal authorities to private investors for civil reorganization in January 2007.
