West Dalarna Line

The Västerdalsbanan connects Repbäcken in Borlänge with Malung in central Sweden. The railway line was built to standard gauge.

History

Today's railway line was opened in several sections of various railway companies. In 1905, the Falun Västerdalarnes Järnväg ( FVJ ) the distance of about Falun Repbäcken after Björbo in operation. 1907 was followed by the section Björbo after Vansbrosimningen by the Stockholm- Västerås - Bergslagens Järnvägar (SWB ) and 1934, the portion Vansbrosimningen Malung by the Limedsforsen - Särna Järnväg ( LSJ ).

After subsequent railway line was shut down after over Malungsfors halls and Särna already in the 1960s, was 1972/73 of demolition until Malungsfors station. In the years after 2000, the route was blocked after Malungfors with the note " Underhållet upphört ".

The timetable change 2011/12 drove the last passenger train from Malung to Borlänge on 10 December 2011. Finally, the freight was adjusted to that authorized for 100 km / h route in January 2013, as the company RushRail, which had carried out the last movement, was not able to upgrade the control system ERTMS on its locomotives.

Thus, the entire rail line is no regular traffic. If necessary, Vansbrosimningen is served by Green Cargo.

In October 2013 Trafikverket suggested to adjust the maintenance of the distance between Rågsveden and Malung. If the surveyed authorities, there is a route for three years without maintenance continue without them can be busy. After these three years, when there is no longer any need for the route, the route finally shut down.
