The West Shawnigan Lake Provincial Park is only about 9 hectare Provincial Park in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is located about 39 kilometers northwest of Vicotria and is on the Trans-Canada Highway ( Highway 1 ) to reach. The park is located in the Cowichan Valley Regional District.

In its vicinity, at the south end of Shawnigan Lake, is the memory Iceland Provincial Park.

Plant

The park lies on the northwestern shore of Shawnigan Lake. A road separates the park into the Intensive Recreation Zone ( the zone with the picnic area ) and the Natural Environment Zone ( a strong natural zone). In the park is a protected area category II (National Park).

History

The park is one of the smaller of the BC Provincial Park and was established in 1979. In it there are traces of historical logging. At stumps, the traces of the work can be viewed with the so-called Springboard.

Flora and Fauna

Within the ecosystem of British Columbia is the park, as well as the surrounding parks, the Eastern Very Dry Maritime subzone associated with the Coastal Douglas - fir zone. In the park there are stocks of Pacific dogwood, the Nuttall's flowering dogwood. According to the park headquarters can be found in the quieter part of the park stocks of endangered plants ( Viola howellii and Senecio macourii ).

Activities

The park is a popular destination among the inhabitants of the region. Many paddlers use the Shawnigan Lake. Also popular are trips to the, located at the south end, Memory Iceland Provincial Park.

The park is a so-called day -use park and therefore has no sites for tents or similar. In addition to a picnic area, he only has a simple plumbing system.
