The Westaue is the continuation of Saxony Haeger floodplain east of Auhagen and south of the Steinhuder Sea in the district of Schaumburg from the influx of Rodenberg floodplain. After about 800 meters you cross the county border and flows through Mesmerode, Bokeloh, Wunstorf, Blumenau and Liethe.

Between Liethe and Bordenau the Westaue opens into the lead.

The almost 13 km long Westaue has only 3 other tributaries: the Osterriehe the murder ditch and the Südaue which rises near Barsinghausen Deister. By the three floodplain that receives the Westaue, it leads water from the Deister, the Süntel, the Bückeberg the Rehburger mountains in the lanyard.

Your a reclaimed river bed north of the center of Wunstorf she received through diversion and closure of the South and Nordaue (at the South Wall and North Wall of the old city ) and lifting the Mühlstaus ( on the northern wall for the water mill of the company Langhorst ) in the 1970s. Through this flow regulation formerly frequent flooding of parts of the old town have been completed.
