Western Switzerland–Simplon Company

The Suisse Occidentale -Simplon - (SOS) was a Swiss railway company which existed from 1881 to 1890.

History

The corporation Suisse Occidentale -Simplon (SOS) was established on June 28, 1881 from the purchase of Ligne du Simplon by the Chemins de fer de la Suisse Occidentale. In 1888, the Jura -Bern -Luzern -Bahn SOS joined. The purchase price was approximately 13.2 million Swiss francs.

The Suisse Occidentale -Simplon was with an investment capital of 248 million Swiss francs and a net length of 580 kilometers, the then largest railway company of Switzerland. The compounds Geneva -Lausanne -Brig and from Lausanne to Bern Romont continuations over and over Yverdon to Neuchatel or La Neuveville were the primary route network. The SOS operating some more tracks, such as the bull -Romont train or - at the expense of the French Mediterranean Railway - on the routes Jougne - Vallorbe - Pontarlier and Verrières- Pontarlier.

The puncture of the Simplon was the network strategic priority of the SOS, but it never came. Only in 1886 invested SOS for preliminary studies in this respect almost 670,000 Swiss francs. In 1890, the SOS merged with Pont- Vallorbe train to the Jura -Simplon -Bahn (JS).
