Westphalia is a city in the U.S. state of Kansas in Anderson County. In 2000 Westphalia had 165 inhabitants in 66 households, and 39 families. Westphalia has an area of 0.5 km ² and a population density of 318.5 inhabitants / km ².

Location

The town is located east of Topeka, near the border with Missouri.

History

Westphalia was founded in 1879. In the same year the post office was opened. 1880 acquired two German settlers from Westphalia ( Iowa) 320 acres of land and erected a number of buildings. 1881 was the place its name. The first Catholic church was also opened in 1881. The Catholic school opened in 1883. 1899 burned the place down completely and rebuilt in 1900.
