Enjoy life (also known under the title of The Whisky - ship ) is a British film directed by Alexander Mackendrick from the year 1949. It is based on the novel Whisky Galore by Compton Mackenzie, who also wrote the screenplay.

Action

The film tells the story of the fictional Hebridean island Todday on which is expected during the Second World War the whiskey. As a whiskey -laden cargo ship aground off the island, the islanders secretly harbor the cargo and hide them from the authorities, in particular the curious and narrow-minded commander of the Home Guard, Captain Wagget.

Background

The novel and the movie based on a true story: In 1941, the cargo steamer SS Politician ran aground in Eriskay Sound near the small island Calway. The inhabitants of the surrounding islands bargen 24,000 crates of whiskey and hid them from the customs authorities, so that the majority of officially could never be recovered.

The film was mostly shot on the island of Barra.
